At first glance, Sweatcoin sounds like a scam. I have to admit I was among the skeptics when I first heard there was an app that would pay me for walking. Who pays you to walk?

How is such an app sustainable? Well, it turns out I was wrong

TL;DR — Updated July 2026

Sweatcoin is legit. It’s not a scam, it pays out, and I still have it running on my phone.

But the money is close to nothing now. When I tested this in 2023, the conversion rates made about $100 a year look reasonable. Today the payout runs through the SWEAT crypto token, which trades around $0.0004 — down from an all-time high near $0.018.

Walk the free-tier maximum every day for a year and you’d clear roughly $1.40. That is not a typo.

Install it for the motivation. Don’t install it for the income.

Is Sweatcoin Legit?

A quick check on Play Store and App Store will show you that Sweatcoin is a highly-rated app downloaded and used by many.

While some won’t love an app for whatever reason, the majority of the people that have reviewed the app don’t label it as a scam.

I can also confirm that Sweatcoin is legit. You actually get paid for walking. However, you won’t become a millionaire on the app. Users should download and use the app while having reasonable expectations. You’ll make some money.

However, it won’t be hundreds of dollars daily simply by walking.

Here’s the distinction that matters, and it’s the one most reviews skip: legit and lucrative are two different questions.

Sweatcoin passes the first easily. Real company, real app, real payouts. It fails the second badly in 2026 — and it didn’t always, which is why so many articles about it are still quoting numbers that stopped being true years ago. Including, until today, this one.

So, What is Sweatcoin?

In the simplest terms possible, I’d define Sweatcoin as an app that rewards you with Sweatcoins (new-generation currency) based on your daily steps. You can use your earnings on some great products or donate them or charity.

The app has over 120 million registered users currently.

The Sweatcoin app allows you to make money while looking after your health. You’ll also help society if you donate and save some money if you buy items with your coins. Staying active also offers healthcare cost benefits.

How Much Will I Make with Sweatcoin?

It depends. The amount of money anyone can make on Sweatcoin depends mainly on your activity levels. Since I don’t know how active you are on a daily basis, I can’t answer this question with certainty.

However, a marathon runner who trains daily will obviously be more active than someone who walks a few steps daily.

You’d have to get the app to know exactly how much you can make based on your activity levels. You can also use my analysis below to try and figure out how much money you can make with Sweatcoin.

How Much Have I Made with Sweatcoin?

What I measured in 2023. One of my 2023 resolutions was to be more active, and Sweatcoin gave me a reason to care about the step count. I averaged roughly 8,000 steps a day. By the end of that January I had banked about 200 Sweatcoins.

At the rates back then, those 200 coins were worth somewhere between $2.60 and $10 depending on how I cashed out. That is what the original version of this article reported, and it was accurate at the time.

What those same 200 coins are worth today: about eight cents.

The steps did not change. The reward did. The conversion path moved to a crypto token — more on that in the next section — and that token has lost roughly 98% of its value from its peak.

For a second opinion that is not mine: one independent test running about 8,500 steps a day for six months came out with roughly fifty cents of cashable value. That is the honest number to plan around.

How Do I Convert My Sweatcoins into Cash?

This is the part that changed the most, and it is why the old numbers in this article no longer hold.

The PayPal cash-out is gone for most users. If you read an article telling you to bank 3,650 Sweatcoins for a $50 PayPal transfer — including the version of this article you would have read before today — that route does not work the way it is described.

Here is the current path. You move your Sweatcoins into the Sweat Wallet app, where they become SWEAT, a cryptocurrency. Turning SWEAT into actual money means going through a crypto exchange. That is the only real cash-out today.

And here is the catch. As of July 2026, SWEAT trades around $0.0004. Its all-time high was about $0.018 back in 2022. Crypto prices move, so treat that as a snapshot rather than a promise — but it has been sitting in fractions of a cent for a long stretch now.

The earning side has limits the old version of this post never mentioned:

  • Roughly 1 Sweatcoin per 1,000 verified outdoor steps
  • A 5% commission comes off the top, so 10,000 steps nets about 9.5 coins, not 10
  • The free tier caps out near 10 Sweatcoins a day no matter how far you walk
  • Indoor steps and treadmill miles largely do not count

So the ceiling on a free account is about 300 Sweatcoins a month, or 3,650 a year. At today’s token price that is roughly $1.40 for a year of hitting the cap every single day. The old version of this article quoted $50 for those same 3,650 coins.

Is Sweatcoin Worth the Trouble?

Yes! In my opinion, Sweatcoin is definitely worth it. I’m getting some additional money that I would do anyway without being paid. Staying active is a huge part of my lifestyle currently and in the future.

It doesn’t cost me anything to have the Sweatcoin running and automatically tracking my activity and paying me for it.

Do You Really Get Paid for Walking?

Yes! I know it is hard to believe such an app exists, but it’s true. If I wanted, I could easily convert my points and get paid for something I would still have done.

The app is definitely worth it, considering you can donate your points to charity. You also improve your fitness and overall health as you are motivated to do more and earn more.

While I love fitness, I also appreciate personal finance. I love making an extra dollar and jump at every opportunity to do so passively. Previously, my health and fitness goals felt like they were taking time from my financial goals.

It takes time to hit the gym on weekdays. I would rather spend that time doing something that brings in some extra income.

Sweatcoin has been perfect for me since I don’t feel like I am sacrificing valuable time.

You do really get paid. You just won’t notice it in your bank account. Think of it as a rounding error that happens to make you walk more — which, honestly, is the part I have actually gotten value from.

Sweatcoin also gives me some much-needed inspiration to stay on course with my health and fitness goals. Let’s face it! Staying consistently active is a challenge to many.

An app like Sweatcoin can easily get you motivated when you think of the reward.

Can You Use your Sweatcoins to Buy Goods?

Yes! According to the official website, there are 1,000s of branded goods/services you can choose to buy in the marketplace. These goods range from iPhones to Apple watches, yoga classes, and more.

How to Donate Sweatcoins?

There are numerous causes you can support using Sweatcoins. They include humanitarian, environmental, and animal preservation causes.

How Much Sweatcoins can I Make Daily?

It depends on your activity levels. The more you move around, the more you’ll earn. As mentioned, you can also earn more in the long term if you take time before converting your Sweatcoins into cash.

Conclusion: Should You Install Sweatcoin App?

Install it if you are already walking and want one more small nudge to keep going. As a motivation tool it works, and it costs you nothing but battery.

Skip it if you are looking for a side hustle. The math does not get there. If earning is the goal, your time is better spent almost anywhere else — including several of the apps in my 19 best money making apps roundup.

I still have it running. I check the balance about twice a year and laugh. That is the correct relationship to have with this app.
